Nov 26, 2020

Maastricht University, the Association of Schools of Public Health in the European Region (ASPHER), and the Open Medical Institute (OMI) have joined forces to offer two annual courses in different areas of Public Health.

This week’s OMInar was dedicated to Economic Evaluation in Healthcare. Dr. Silvia Evers and Dr. Milena Pavlova from Maastricht University led the two-day webinar focusing on Health Technology Assessment Methods and Pricing, Access and Affordability in Healthcare. 16 leading experts shared their knowledge with 37 fellows from 25 countries, many of whom were OMI alumni and several Maastricht University students.

The faculty discussed the basics of economic evaluation and its application to health technology assessment and decision making. Economic evaluation tools are largely accepted as indispensable instruments in the evaluation of healthcare goods, services, and system reforms. These tools are of critical importance in decision-making for developing evidence-informed policies pertaining to all aspects of resource allocation. Such tools provide insights on how to improve efficiency and how to protect equity of both healthcare financing and provision.
