World Health Organization (WHO) Director General, Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, retweeted a recently published video by Walther Global Palliative Care, highlighting injustices in health and massive global inequities in access to Palliative Care.
The OMI is very proud to be featured in this video, showing faculty and fellows, as footage was taken at Schloss Arenberg in Salzburg during the recent ELNEC Palliative Care seminar.
WHO estimates that 40 million people around the world with a variety of illnesses would benefit from palliative care. While palliative medicine is now a formally recognized medical specialty or subspecialty in North America and Western Europe, that is not the case in the rest of the world. Over the past several years, the OMI has been working to address this gap and advance palliative medicine globally. At the OMI palliative care seminars, participants are trained in vital aspects of care, including pain and symptom management, communication, cultural considerations, ethical concerns, and care at the time of death.
