Wiener Schule der Medizin Gala 2022

The annual Wiener Schule der Medizin Gala took place on Wednesday, November 23, 2022, at the historic Van Swieten Saal at the Medical University of Vienna. This year’s event was dedicated to the topic of “lungs” and included a gala dinner and short lectures about innovations and contributions of Viennese physicians diagnosing and treating lung diseases.

Former OMI mentor and faculty member Dr. Herwig Swoboda covered the history and development of pulmonology in Vienna. OMI course director and Head of the Department of Pulmonology, Medical University of Vienna Dr. Marco Idzko spoke about risks and chances for a healthy lung. Dr. Helmut Prosch from the Department of Radiology, Medical University of Vienna covered screening methods for lung cancers, and Dr. Daniela Gompelmann from the Department of Pulmonology, Medical University of Vienna gave an insight into the relevance of bronchoscopy.

Dr. Wolfgang Aulitzky, CEO of the Open Medical Institute, and Dr. Markus Müller, Dean of the Medical University of Vienna, presented Dr. Petra Kohlberger, Head of the Department of Gynecology, Medical University of Vienna, with this year’s OMI award for her leadership, commitment, and support of the OMI seminar and observership programs.

The Open Medical Institute, the Medical University of Vienna, and the Josephinum Museum jointly organize the annual Wiener Schule der Medizin Gala to promote and celebrate the past, present, and future achievements of Vienna’s medical community. The event raised 60,000 euros in support of the joint medical programs.
