World Leading Urologists Teach Second Annual Course in Mexico City

Sep 26, 2023

The OMI was thrilled to host its second annual OMI MEX Seminar in Urology in Mexico City last week. Not only do world renowned urologists from MSKCC and the ESU travel to Salzburg to teach international cohorts, but the same faculty members traveled to Mexico to bestow their expertise and knowledge to the next generation of Latin American doctors.

From September 18-20, 2023, 31 fellows from various parts of Mexico and Brazil attended the OMI MEX ESU/ Weill Cornell Seminar in Urology. Dr. Jonathan A. Coleman, Professor of Urology at MSKCC, served as the course director and Dr. Joan Palou Redorta, Chairman of the Urology Department, Professor of Urology at Fundació Puigvert Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona, and Former Director of the European School of Urology, co-led the seminar. The faculty was quite international, including Dr. Carlos Errando-Smet, from Fundació Puigvert Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona in Spain, Dr. Grace Hyun from New York University Langone Medical Center in the USA, and Dr. Mariano Sotomayor from Médica Sur in Mexico.

The world renowned faculty put together a dynamic and inclusive schedule for the fellows, including 12 lectures that covered topics such as NMIBC: What is a TURBT in 2023?, Update in the Management of Upper Urinary Tract Tumors, Evaluation and Management of Male Incontinence, Pediatric Conditions that Require Urodynamic Evaluation, Hypospadias: An Update and Surgical Tricks, and more! Two case presentation sessions took place on Monday and Tuesday afternoon, in which 17 fellows presented cases, resulting in three excellent cases chosen by the faculty. Many fellows find the case presentation sessions to be invaluable, as the opportunity to discuss their real cases and ask for feedback from top experts doesn’t present itself every day.

Time goes so fast, and before long, the Wednesday afternoon graduation ceremony took place, in which fellows had an interactive lunch with faculty and received their certificates of participation. We are grateful to the faculty who donated their time, energy, and expertise to mentor and teach international doctors from Latin America!
