The OMI is thrilled that the Maternal and Infant Health seminar expanded to Mexico this week! From November 28-30, 2022, 49 fellows from Oaxaca and surrounding areas gathered for the three-day OMI MEX Columbia University Seminar in Maternal and infant Health in Oaxaca, Mexico.
The course was led by Dr. Rakesh Sahni, Medical Director of the NICU and Professor of Pediatrics at Columbia University. Additional faculty from Columbia University included Dr. Thomas Hays, Dr. Russell S. Miller, and Dr. Noelia M. Zork. The expert faculty put together an exciting program for the course, including 12 didactic lectures that covered topics such as Diabetes in Pregnancy, Postpartum Hemorrhage, Recognition and Treatment of Pulmonary Hypertension in Newborns, Anemia and Transfusion in Preterm Infants, and more!
Monday and Tuesday afternoon gave fellows the opportunity to present cases from their personal work experience, which enabled them to receive feedback and advice from faculty and other fellows. Eight cases were presented, and two were selected by the faculty as excellent case presentations. The course concluded on Wednesday afternoon with a closing ceremony and awards.
