One of OMI’s biggest goals for fellows who come to work with us is that they stay in contact with the experts that they met during the course, even after their time in Salzburg has come to an end. It is always inspiring to see when this goal becomes realized!
On September 4 and 5, 2026, another successful satellite symposium was hosted by the OMI, this time at the Department of Radiology at Yerevan State Medical University in Yerevan, Armenia. The symposium focused on Advanced Peripheral Nerve Imaging and Ultrasound Guided Interventions. The two-day gathering was led by Dr. Suren Armeni Jengojan from the Medical University of Vienna in Austria. Dr. Jengojan has been part of the OMI faculty since 2023 and was very excited to share his knowledge at the practice of two OMI alumni.
50+ local doctors with varying specialties (radiology, neurology, surgery, etc.) were able to join the symposium with Dr. Jengojan. It consisted of lectures, case presentations, and hands-on training that allowed fellows to work tangibly with the cases they were examining in the lectures. The lectures focused on peripheral nerve imaging using MRI technology, as well as ultrasound guided interventions on various acute and chronic pain disorders. Dr. Jengojan made sure to facilitate group discussions following workshops and case presentations, so fellows were able to ask questions and relate the newly acquired knowledge to their practices from home.
These symposia are a valuable opportunity for OMI alumni to bring top specialists to their home hospitals. When asked to describe how she believed Dr. Jengojan’s visit would benefit her practice in the long run, Dr. Marina Aloyan stated:
“Peripheral nerve imaging is a relatively new and rapidly evolving field in radiology. Having access to cutting-edge knowledge in this domain is immensely valuable, especially for our young specialists and residents, as it builds a solid foundation for their professional growth and keeps our clinical practice at the forefront of modern diagnostics. Dr. Jengojan’s visit was an exceptional educational opportunity that directly enriches our clinical practice. His lectures were not only deeply informative, but grounded in his own real clinical cases, setting the perfect foundation for the hands-on workshops.”
These types of breakthroughs are the ones that change the trajectory of the quality of care provided by a medical practitioner. The experience gained by the attendees of this symposium will benefit their practice, allowing for a much wider range of colleagues and patients to be positively affected by the insights gained from Dr. Jengojan and his expertise.
While the fellows and symposium coordinators appreciated the time and knowledge provided by Dr. Jengojan, no one was more excited to collaborate with OMI alumni and additional fellows than the lecturer himself, who also has Armenian roots. He gave a heartfelt statement about his time leading the symposium, writing:
“I thoroughly enjoyed exchanging knowledge and experiences with highly motivated and specialized colleagues from radiology, neurology, surgery, and many other disciplines, and contributing to OMI’s inspiring international educational program. The warm hospitality and excellent organization by Dr. Bella Grigoryan and Dr. Marina Aloyan in Yerevan made my stay in Armenia a truly unique and unforgettable experience.” We could not agree more!
