Congratulations to the Riga East Clinical University Hospital!

OMI fellows Dr. Guntis Karelis, Dr. Ilga Kikule and Dr. Andrejs Kostiks, who work in the Department of Neurology in the Riga East Clinical University Hospital in Latvia, were involved in establishing the first ESO-certified stroke unit in Northern Europe. By combining their knowledge, efforts, and involving the whole team in the various steps necessary to obtain the ESO-certificate, they succeeded in improving the care and capabilities of their stroke unit.

The European Stroke Organization’s aim is to reduce the burden of stroke by changing the way strokes are viewed and treated. Founded in 2007, this pan-European society is made up of stroke researchers and physicians, national and regional stroke societies and lay organizations.
