Anesthesiology and Intensive Care Medicine

Oct 23, 2020

The 2020 Salzburg Weill Cornell Anesthesiology and Intensive Care Seminar took place at Schloss Arenberg from October 19 to October 24, 2020. The OMI hosted 19 fellows, who were selected among 174 applicants. They ranged from residents to specialists, and arrived from 10 different countries.

The faculty was drawn from Weill Cornell Medicine, the Medical University of Vienna, the Hospital Schwaz/Tyrol, and the Klagenfurt am Woerthersee Clinic. During the week, they provided fellows with the most up-to-date information and techniques in anesthesiology and intensive care medicine through a combination of lectures and discussions. On Tuesday the participants were given the possibility to join a Royal College of Anaesthetists (RCoA) and British Journal of Anesthesia (BJA) webinar on Chronic Opioid Use: The Other Pandemic, which was chaired by the OMI course director, Dr. Hugh Hemmings from Weill Cornell Medicine. On Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, the fellows presented their clinical cases and answered questions from the audience.

From the lively and friendly atmosphere of the week’s close, it is clear that the bonds formed during these six past days will continue beyond Schloss Arenberg as the participants move forward with their professions and their lives. The OMI is proud to see another successful seminar to its completion and sincerely thanks all of those who contributed their dedication and commitment to the advancement of medicine in these challenging times.
